Walking Westmeadows

Join us at the Broadmeadows Historical Society for a special event as part of the 2025 Australian Heritage Festival. Running from Friday, April 18 to Sunday, May 18, this festival celebrates our rich heritage. Do not miss this unique opportunity to explore and learn!

Embarking on an Adventure: Uncovering the Hidden Gems of Westmeadows on Foot!

Join us for a leisurely walk through the charming streets of Westmeadows, a suburb with a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1850 when it was known as the Broadmeadows Township. This area has a fascinating past that stretches back to the early days of European settlement in Australia.

Westmeadows is nestled along the banks of the picturesque Moonee Ponds Creek, on land that was carefully managed by the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples for 40,000 years. This walk offers a unique opportunity to explore the historical heart of the Township, which served as the administrative centre for the Shire of Broadmeadows for almost 70 years.

The walk will lead you to historic homes, historic landmarks, including the Westmeadows Tavern, and several churches, including the very first church built in the township, providing insight into the spiritual life of the early settlers.

This event is a wonderful way to connect with the history of Westmeadows and appreciate the stories of those who lived here before us. Whether you are a history enthusiast or just looking for a pleasant way to spend a Sunday, this walk is sure to be an enriching experience.

Date: Sunday, 27 April 2025
